Working with Wise Old River and inspired by Medeski Martin and Wood, I’ve decided to add another instrument to my musical adventures this year.
There are many times, when I’d like to capture a more intimate sound with a keyboard instrument. I’d love to add an accordian to my rig, but I just can’t seem to master the air, the chords and the melodic energies yet. But the melodica seems like a nice substitute.
This week, I’ve purchased a new Hohner Ocean Blue melodica to the mix and so far, I’m enjoying this cool little instrument that blends the sound of an accordian and harmonica all into one nice compact instrument.
I’ve used to own a melodica some time ago, but the tone seemed to be out of tune and the response was clunky, but this little handheld keyboard has many improvements.
Wise Old River has a terrific acoustic soundscape and I’m looking forward to adding this to their set list this weekend at Quincy’s in Damascus, Virginia. I’ve been working on some of Jamen Denton’s songs and believe this will add a new perspective to my playing.
I eagerly await the time that myself, Steve Marshall and Steve Reece get to jam on this cool little number by Medeski Martin Wood.
