I had one of the strangest phone calls today. When I returned from lunch, the answering machine was flashing and when I played the message, a man said his name was David Cates. He explained how he had received a package from DHL containing two new software programs for Alien Skin Software from Raleigh.
He explained in his message that he sometimes receives phone calls for me and how his wife Laura met me several years ago at some outdoor function. She is a piano and organ instructor for the Presbyterian Church and he works for Tech Services at Eastman Kingsport.
I was expecting the package and when I called him back he answered the phone, “Hello, David Cates speaking.” I answered, “Hi David, this is David Cate.”
I suppose moments like this happen to a number of people with the same name, but the fact we were confused over software, we both work in tech and he was working less than five miles from my office, made me feel like I was in an episode of the ‘Twilight Zone.’
We made arrangements to get the software and unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to meet Mr. Cates, but maybe our paths will cross again sometime soon.
