This is our fourth year promoting this summer event. In the past, the shows have featured plenty of homegrown talent and the same is true for this year. Our first year back in 2003 featured Yukon, Rob Russell and the Sore Losers, Green Rode Shotgun and The Shazam.

The next year, we put together a performance that featured Johnny Rock Star, CattleAxe, Goodspeed and The Shazam. In 2005, Reagan Boggs, The everybodyfields, Scotty Melton, Mic Harrison and Chris Knight made the first stage outdoors. Last year, we brought the best modern rock bands to the stage with four bands on the ticket including Gretchen, Ablazing Grace, The Only and Pilot (Blindsight).

This year, we decided to change the color a bit and focus our attention on some of the soulful, southern sounds that are capturing attention around the region. Our band Clear has been suggested to open for a couple of up and coming bands from Nashville and Knoxville who also feature local boys from Kingsport as part of their lineup.

Garage Deluxe is a band from Knoxville that has performed at Bonnaro and hundreds of stages across the southeast as they culture a groovy southern rock jam band sound that features hard-core keyboards like the Allman Brothers, Skynyrd, Grand Funk, The Band and more. There collection of original music features great lyrics, exciting keyboard riffs and easy, danceable vibe.

Les Honkies More Tonkies are from Nashville and describe their music as a crossroads between Jason and The Scorchers, Cheap Trick, Waylon Jennings and a host of other popular includes, but they have a raunchy garage sound that compliments the funky-fried flavor of this performance.

The Mountain Soul Jam is a joint festival sponsored by regional sponsors including Fun Fest, Dr. Enuf, Smith Brothers Harley Davidson, ETSU and ETSU Kingsport. It’s a free show that kicks off the Taste of the Tri-Cities on Wednesday, July 18th. Showtime is 7pm. That’s when Clear hits the stage and the acts will wrap up around 10.30.

Should be a great concert and lots of fun too, so check out the bands and say hello along the way. This will be Clear’s first Kingsport performance and we’re all thrilled about the potential that might play out for the band as we get the chance to perform with some great players and songwriters on this one night during Fun Fest!
