He was Time Magazine’s Person of the Year in 2005 and the only thing he hasn’t received is the Nobel Peace Price (he’s been nominated for three years 2003, 2005 and 2006). Early this month, singer/songwriter Bono accepted the Chairman’s award from civil rights leader Julian Bond during the 2007 NAACP awards and as surreal as the moment was, it’s inspiring to see this artist continue to passionately support this important fundraising commission.
U2 is one of the most enduring bands of the last thirty years and with a front-man like Bono you have to wonder how long their fame can continue, but it’s certain his work for civil rights and global poverty will linger for decades to come as he and others encourage the world to turn their eyes and hearts toward the less fortunate. Bono’s current One/Red Campaign is attracting global support and his relationships with world-leaders is ambitious, but I believe he sincerely has a desire to eliminate extreme poverty will have tremendous impact on future generations.
The YouTube video link is a great rerun and says alot for the organization as much as it does the individual honored. Some great quotes and Bono gets the house on their feet for a little pentecostal preaching before he bids farewell. Worth watching…
