There’s a new painting at the top…

Adele Bloch-BauerI found out today that a new painting has toppled Picasso in the world of Art. What’s even more interesting to me is the fact that this is a new artist I learned about while watching the news regarding this piece several months ago.

A few weeks ago, a painting by Picasso entered the top three along with the former number one Boy with a Pipe.

The portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer by the Austrian painter Gustav Klimt was sold after a court ordered the Austrian government to return the 1907 painting to Ms Bloch-Bauer’s heir in January. CBS News covered this on their six-o-clock and today I learned the painting sold for $135 million.

This particular painting and four others were stolen by The Nazis during the second world war and have been on display in Vienna for more than sixty years and were finally returned to the family that originally owned them in January.

Kilmpt has an interesting style and got started with his brother decorating theatres. Some sources say that his work was typically displayed behind a veil as not to tarnish young minds. His painting The Kiss is certainly sensual and his use of gold and yellow designs make him strikingly unique.
