Dave Murray – K-Rock owner and philanthropist

Dave MurrayLast night, Dave Murray, local media personality and owner of WRZK “K-Rock” 95.9 FM in Kingsport suffered a sudden fatal heart attack while reffing a soccer match at Sullivan Central High School.

I didn’t know Dave very well. We passed each other at events and promotions through the years, but I was aware that he was a like-able and important media personality, business owner, philanthropist and tireless volunteer for our community. Dave loved music too and radio was his passion.

K-Rock is the only real rock radio station in the area and I’m sure he was great to work for and our community has lost a great business leader too.

Over the past several weeks, being 40-plus has been tough as several friends are vanishing and what used to be an occasional disruption in my social life is now becoming a regular occurrence and man-o-man does this ever bring up a big reflection of my own life and the foreboding sense of departure. More importantly – time is becoming more and more important and the trouble…well that seems irrelevant.

Dave was a tremendous asset to our community and our hearts go out to his family and friends as they travel through this tragic time.
