A couple of weeks ago I ran into Tony Kiss at The Town Pump Tavern in Black Mountain, NC.
Tony used to write for the Kingsport Times-News and now serves the Asheville community as the entertainment editor for the Asheville Citizen Times.
It wasn’t long before Tony and I started talking about old times and new ventures. That’s when he described his new Podcast he’s producing in Asheville called, ‘The Beer Guy.’
For those of you who may be out of the loop, a Podcast is merely a syndicated audio recording and Tony does one every week you can download to your computer and playback on your Ipod or any other digital audio device.
The Beer Guy is a great podcast for anyone who likes to discover good micro-brews in the region. You can find the download here.
I subscribed to Tony’s Podcast a couple of weeks ago and was listening to his recent interview with Doug Beatty, the owner of Barley’s Tap Room in Asheville. This place is legendary for serving up great micro-brews and has a pizza delicacy that is legendary.
In the Podcast, Tony and Doug talk about their new location coming soon to downtown Kingsport. Evidently, Tony has bought the building and has plans to restore one of Kingsport’s original theater into its original decor and host live concerts, micro-brews and movies throughout the day and I can’t wait! Especially since the office is right up the street and we need a good pub in downtown Kingsport to get to know our friends a little better.
I can’t wait either. This theatre was the first place I visited in Kingsport back in the summer of 1976. My folks dropped off me and my brother at the State Theatre and we watched Midway on the big screen at that time. Damn! I’m old.
Hurry up Barleys!
