My Iraqi Adventures – Desensitized in the battle for Iraq

One of the most relevant blogs that I always read with interest is from a local musician, Travis Stuart. Travis was the original bass player for the Rob Russell and The Sore Losers and played with Horace and several other players when he comes back to Johnson City. Right now, he’s fighting for our country and I’m continually impressed with his character and proud to know that he’s representing our region.

Travis posted an interesting thread this morning that made me think long and hard about what life must be like for any solider in Iraq.

I no longer cringe at the site of dead bodies, either in photos or in person, I no longer feel sympathy for crying women or crying kids as their husbands, sons, brothers, cousins, or what the hell ever gets arrested for making IED’s, car bombs, or taking shots at us, the Iraqi Police, or Army. I mean, what the hell can you tell them, they don’t understand you any way, and you usually don’t have the time to grab an interpreter to console them.

If you have the time, check out Travis’s adventures and the continuation to his ‘reality show’ from somewhere in Bagdhad. He’s become quite the introspective writer and his photos are better than any newsreel.
