‘Community Journalism’ is the current buzz word on the Net as new web services deliver all kinds of free publishing tools for netizens to create content. Over the past several months, we’re watching forums, blogs, podcasts and other forms of 21st century publishing tools steal the headlines from week to week.
Founded last year by the folks at Pay Pal, ‘You Tube’ is a consumer media company for people to watch and share original video content. I saw the start-up, but waited a bit before I started to play with their services.
A few weeks ago, I shot a lot of video of Reagan Boggs as we toured with the band across Tennessee and North Carolina, so I decided to use the service to upload these video files to and have a new account at You Tube that features my personal video. I would place it on my own server, but felt like it was a good way to promote Reagan to a larger audience. They make it easy too…with a 100mb file limit on uploads, you can contribute some large file sizes.
You’ll find everything from music to short movies, video blogs and more on You Tube. A lot of the content is not that interesting, but there are a few interesting videos and their subscriber lists allow you to subscribe to tags and keywords to sort through all the content to find exactly what you are looking for.
My profile can be found here and I have uploaded three videos; two from Reagan’s live performance on WBIR and another from Black Mountain, NC. Enjoy You Tube!
