Music on The Square in Jonesborough plans for 2006

Steve Cook sends this email regarding the upcoming 2006 Music On The Square series in Jonesboro. Last year, I played the streets of Jonesborough on a Friday night and was delighted with a great turnout of about 500 people in lawn chairs and lining the side streets of the historic downtown. The stage is simple….bands set up right on the courthouse steps right about sunset and the event has been growing in popularity each year.

Steve Cook explains…”it’s my way of giving back to the town.” He continued, “I could make it as a politician. There’s other folks for that.”

Along with his wife Tava, they own Jonesborough Art and Glass, a historic lavender building that is one of my favorite places to shop for holidays as they feature original art, sculpture, glass and metalworks that are truly unique.

Here’s Steve’s message for the New Year!

Don’t forget to sign up for the Music On The Square newsletter and stay in tune to for this popular regional event.

Happy Holidays from your friends at Music on the Square! If you missed the John Jorgenson Quintet in November, too bad!!(You do get another chance-JJQ will be at the www.downhome.com on Friday Feb 3rd!!) It was one of the finest performances we have had at any time, and the Visitors’ Center was packed wall to wall! Thanks to everyone that came out and enjoyed the show, as it encourages me to find some more quality acts to bring to town. Remember, the Visitors’ Center only holds about 300 seats, so get your tix early for the shows you want to see. This e-mail goes out to over 1,000 folks, so don’t delay!

And here is the next show on our schedule; the legendary Jesse Winchester! February 10th, 7:30pm, at the JBOVisCtr. Call to reserve your tix at 423-753-1010. Some of you will remember Jesse from way back-he hasn’t been around here in several years, as he now lives in Canada and spends alot of time in Memphis. Many of his songs were made hits by other artists. Winchester made his first album, the acclaimed Jessie Winchester (which included his classic ‘Yankee Lady,’ ‘Brand New Tennessee Waltz,’ and ‘Biloxi’) with Robbie Robertson as producer, and subsequently toured in Canada as an opening act for The Band. You will be mesmerized by his stage presence, and his own performances are in an understated, contemporary folk style with a country-gospel tinge. Tickets are $15, and can be found at the Visitors’ Center(423-753-1010), Cat’s Music in JC, Morrell Music in JC, and Mountain Aire Music, 505 State Street in Bristol(next to Java J’s).
