I saw this postcard the other day and as many of the early Kingsport business, I wasn’t sure where this building existing. Last night, there were several people at the Allandale Mansion as part of the Friends of Allandale fund-raiser held once a year. The conversation was mostly about Kingsport’s history and I mentioned a couple of old restaurants to these folks and many remembered some great old stories.
My main reference was the Martinique Restaurant. This was an earlier discovery that eluded me till now, but this one was an interesting location with a greek family with the last name of Martin ran the restaurant and were a favorite of locals, especially for their antipasto. The Martinique was located on Memorial Boulevard near where the Garden Basket and Model City Motels are located no far from the Fort Henry Mall.
This old building was called the Tally Ho Restaurant and is another old restaurant, I’ll ask around to find out more.
