One of the goals of the new server here at Woodoak is to begin to build an archive of improvisational arrangements and original songs and tonight, after I got home from work, in between the news and a new website, I recorded the first installment to the Improvisation Lounge and a few new tunes that I’ve been working on as I get ready for next week’s Tech Council Awards Luncheon and Dinner with the Dead at Allandale.
Tonight’s recordings include;
BLUE MONK – Recorded Wednesday, October 12, 2005
– Guess I was inspired by Monk’s birthday Sunday. This is one of my favorite Monk tunes and I love shaping the pulse dependent upon the environment and playing with those funny notes and the whole tone scales Monk liked to play.
DEAD MAN BLUES – Recorded Wednesday, October 12, 2005
Jelly Roll Morton has a lot for me to learn and I’ve got a long way to go, but I look forward to playing this old song at Dinner with The Dead later in the month.
COMO SIENTO YO- Recorded Wednesday, October 12, 2005
Ruben Gonzalez….I first heard his totally splendid and romantic cuban music in a Nature Company store in San Francisco a few years back and have fallen in love with his style. I’m still working on it, but particularly enjoy this short arrangement.
LATENT CONTENT – Recorded Wednesday, October 12, 2005
For what it’s worth…true improvisational piece. My job gets me really wired and although this is nothing more than 3 and half minutes of music on the fly, it sure made me feel better.
