So far, all I know to call this is an ‘Orange Shroom.’
In the heat of the summer, these little fungi spring up like upside down carrots in my yard where an old poplar tree has been cut down. They prefer hot muggy mornings to pop up out of the ground and only last a few hours before they deflate like a balloon and melt into the thick grass around the tree stump.
So far, I’ve not located this plant anywhere on the web or any of my books, so the jury is still out. I’m assuming because of it’s abrupt and short life span that this is a mushroom, but they look a lot like carrots that don’t know which way is up.
