New Server On The Way

I haven’t thought of the name yet, but my new server is on the way. It’s a used Quicksilver Apple G4 and I bought it off Ebay this past weekend for $800.00.

My first small effort with a server is working. The Apple G3 is still online upstairs and I’ve began to understand enough about Apache and other database and other OS info to go ahead and take the next step and get a beefier machine. I’m eager to add audio and video and develop a logical directory of personal and professional data and the old G3 has no headroom.

SophieI bought it off an Ebay seller in New York, New York and the specs are below. It’s got dual processors and plenty of hard disc space to expand and should prove to be a good solid foundation for the next couple of years. I went with the Quicksilver G4 to save a little money and also to hedge my bets against what might happen to Apple as they move to Intel in the next year or so. The Quicksilver is a good machine and is my personal desktop at home.

This brings my computer inventory up a bit.
– Apple G4 – Main Computer at home
– Apple G3 – First initial server
– Apple G4 Powerbook – Titanium- Main laptop for email and calendars
– Apple G3 Powermac- Runs a HP scanner on OS9

Other than the new server, there are two other old Quadras that do very little now, but take up space.

Here are the stats for the new server and hopefully, it will be up and running this weekend and I’ll finally make some sense out of all this media.
