My new Damsel Petting Zoo

RedDamsel

They look alot like Dragonflys and I understand why. They look a lot like them, but as they dart around my pool in the backyard, their personalities bring me to discuss these bugs more among my friends because they are unusually social.

These insects seem very curious of my activites and often land nearby and stare for as long as I’ll stare back.

It sounds silly, but there’s a video record too. One day while dozing by the pool, an afternoon summer nap, this irridescent blue damsel landed on my toe! The first reaction was to jump, but the more I watched, the more it watched. I decided to make an attempt to grab the video camera and was even more suprised when I can back, switched the camera on and he landed right where we left each other. I have that video and will post it to this blog soon too, because it’s too cool .

This weekend in the garden, another damsel caught my attention in the garden. Most of the time, they are bright blue or green, so it was unusual to see a bright red damsel landing on a day lily bulb and posing for my camera and several shots (click here to see the gallery). These are probably my favorite new discoveries and their personalities are either extraordinarly overt in my backyard, or the time and attention they receive from me is enhanced by the zen quality of my pool.

Who knows? I like meeting new friends though, even if they do belong to another culture of beings.
