My home in Kingsport continues to amuse me with its jungle of little critters that continue to show their personalities from time to time.
It was Sunday morning and I was headed out for lunch with my family and I ran across a strange creature stuck in a bowl of water and thrashing about in a panic. At first glance, I thought it was a mouse or some other rodent, but I was surprised to see one of the oddest and largest beetles I’ve seen in a long time.
This critter was huge, rougly measuring about three inches and spotted with a calico potato colored shell. I picked it up out of his watery grave and grabbed my camera. He posed for me while I shot several pictures, but now that I’ve got them, it’s hard for me to tell exactly what kind of creature I’m looking at, so I’ll keep looking.
I put him back in the grass along my fence and he seemed to be content to carry on his day.
