After many months of deliberation, I’ve decided to launch my own server farm from my home. It’s been three months since I purchased a DSL connection from Sprint and this was a fortune. The advertised per month price is just a portion of the setup and charges that come your way. Regardless of that, I had to get Tivo ready to go.
It’s funny in a way. Over a year ago, my LAN land was dropped in leui of my wireless Treo and since then there have been no telemarketing calls and my phone has been in my pocket. I couldn’t believe that I was getting back into Sprint’s lair, but TIVO had to have a phone line.
Nevertheless, after several weeks of procrastination, wrestling around with various computers and scenarios, the server upstairs is up and running at this address I’ll hopefully resolve that to David Cate.com, but I’ve got to do some studing on the BIND technology and name servers. With a little luck, I should have a steady Apple server running from Woodoak in a few days.
