I was kidding Alan Gamble at Laurel Marina this weekend, that the past two days should qualify as our ‘water weekend’ with The Reagan Boggs Band.
We were unloading our gear again on Saturday night to play at this great marina on South Holston Lake that is a spectacular gem for this area and cool place for a show.
I had spoke with Tom Bettini earlier because his band CattleAxe had played this show some time ago and the first thing he said was…’you’ll be seasick.’ He said that because the stage is actually a dock and that dock is about 30 yards away from a really cool deck/patio thing were all the boats come in to listen to the music when there is a party.
It was funny because last night, we were playing in a monsoon and tonight we’re floating on a dock….water all around, two days in a row.
When I arrived, the first couple I noticed were Cam Collins and Ben Swihart. A bit awkward as we had not seen each other since they left our company at GoTriCities, but nevertheless, it was good to see them happy and I must admit that they are producing great work together.
This was a great gig and driving over, I was reminded once again why I like Northeast Tennessee so well and love calling it home. This country is absolutely beautiful and today’s summer day was a touch humid, but peaceful and fragrant.
Our sets were a lot of fun tonight. Each time we play, the songs seem to settle into a truly unique blend of talent. Greg and Jason were great together tonight and Crawford’s electronic banjo tricked me tonight. Besides sounding like a Strat, he was plaing slide by using a deck pole and the moment to remember….’The Mermaid Song” (you had to be there).
We had some great food, plenty of Cornonas and Coors Light from the Laurel Marina Dock and enjoyed one of the most enjoyable jobs we’ve had so far with the band.
This stage is a little tough to setup and tear down because you have too navigate the dock, but it’s a one of a kind experience and a great place to eat and socialize among the small yachts and pontoons that populate the slips.
An A+ location to watch the sunset fade behind the hills and watch the stars come out. Good food, great atmosphere and a stage like no other.
