First Podcast Today Downtown

Today was the first PodCast in the 95 year old Kingsport Bank building that houses our offices here at GoTriCities and wow…what a day!

I had been putting this on hold for a couple of weeks (business and tech issues), originally announcing it on The Buzz . Of course this first came to my attention when Mark Mahoney mentioned the new technology on one of the threads. It was only natural that we consider Amaranth Signal as our first guest.

I went to Jeff’s Music in downtown Kingsport and got a great deal on some low-end microphones and a couple of iron little stands. Total damage about $140.00. I had a mic of my own and ran all three mikes into a Mackie 12 channel mixing console. From there, I used a IMic adapter that took the two RCA plugs and ran it into a single headphone jack (not sure what to call that one) that feed into the USB port on the back of a Mac Mini

From there, I used Garageband to conduct the interview and record the two guys in our offices downtown. The final file turned out to be around 650 mb in size and transported to my 20gb Archos Mp3 Recorder. I use this for a hard drive, but it’s real conveninent for making transfers fairly quicky.

I’m glad we’re through the first one too. I worked up a lot of anxiety about it, but went ahead with the interview today and will begin to work with the sound files over the next couple of days and may mixdown a special song intro into the front end and work in a sponsor credit or two. From there, a RSS connection and Ipod download and we should be good to go with this promotion.

Editor Brad Lifford is running a press story next week in GoTriCities magazine about the new service and we will also develop online and print promotions to encourage listenership and Buzz. Should be ready to go in the next few days.
